For commuter vanpools (those not leased by an employer), fares are per seat, and are charged monthly, based on round-trip mileage. Starting an Easy Street® NY vanpool takes nine fulltime riders and one volunteer driver. Drivers ride free and have limited personal use of the van. Drivers must be 21 years of age and have at least five years of safe driving history. Riders may also apply to become back-up drivers and be reimbursed when they fill in for the driver. When reserving a seat on a van, riders agree to pay their fare in advance by the first working day of each month. The monthly fare includes:
- All vehicle costs
- Gas
- Insurance with no deductible
- Maintenance
- Reimbursement for 2-week vacations, twice a year
- One month leave of absence at no charge
- 24-hour emergency assistance
- Use of back-up vehicles
- Emergency rides home
- Driver safety training
